sacdiyo sheeq of nairobi, kenya used to love getting calls on her cell phone according to an article today by yahoo news (they have cell phones in africa?! no way). ms. sheeq had bollywood movie song ringtones which is probably the kenyan equivalent to miley cyrus’ “party in the usa” but i guess they haven’t caught that fever yet. but things have 
changed for ms. “iron” sheeq. do you mind if i call you that ms. sheeq? ok. thanks. iron sheeq it is! al shabaab insurgents recently took over iron’s town and pwned her ringtones… they grabbed her samsung brick phone (’cause no chance they have blackberries and iphones there) and hit ‘delete’ on her bollywood favorites. when the phone said “ARE YOU SURE YOU WANT TO DELETE KAMBAKHT-ISHQ THEME?” those terrorists probably toyed with her and had their finger on the ‘yes’ button and faked it over and over. basterds. iron sheeq told reporters, “al shabaab wants our ringtones to be only a muslim cleric reading the hadith or koranic verse.” ok iron, so maybe i don’t share your taste of indian music but im not gonna hate on you for it. what those punks did to your playlist is straight jacked up. im pissed enough as it is at the injustice in your country but for them to stoop this low just makes my blood boil. on top of that they downloaded a bunch of koran verses as her ring tone. i would never want anyone to call me if this happened to me. how can you get excited to talk to mister sheeq if when he calls it plays a dude’s monotone voice. “allah akhbar…” CLICK- im silencing it… or atleast set it to vibrate.
“i used to listen to my favorite indian songs on my cell phone,” iron said, “but now i have just thrown that memory away.” i feel ya, girl. i once lost my winamp playlist in college because a dumb virus pummelled my computer. my 90s slow jams list and korean boy band list went down the tubes after i spent hours upon hours downloading it off napster and soompi.com, both of which do not allow free downloads anymore.
yahoo news continues “ali mahamud yusuf, 19, fled his home in kismayu after he was whipped in public last week by al shabaab gunmen who had caught him listening to music and watching videos on his phone. ‘i am still suffering from the 25 lashes,’ yusuf said. ‘I am scared.’”
i write this post somewhat in jest because of the situation that is so very RANDOM about terrorists deleting ringtones and punishing avid music lovers but on a serious note, the injustice that is going on in many parts of the world is 
still common today in the 21st century, including our very own united states. what we can do is support causes that seek to provide justice to these hurt nations and people. there are many out there but one in particular that we hope to partner with in the near future is international justice mission – ijm.org. you can stick a skewer through al shabaab and make them shish kabob. lets help iron sheeq with her ring tone situation and more importantly the good people of god’s green earth who are suffering this very moment.
